The Old Colony YMCA was proud to welcome Brockton native and Washington Wizards star AJ Dybantsa back home on September 19 for a special back-to-school event that brought together students, educators, community leaders, and YMCA supporters. Through the AJ Dybantsa Foundation, AJ partnered with the Old Colony YMCA and YMCA of Greater Boston to personally deliver school supplies to students and teachers in Brockton and Boston.

The event celebrated the power of education, community support, and youth development. AJ reflected on the importance of giving back to the communities that helped shape his journey, emphasizing that education remains a priority for him and his family. He shared that despite being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, he is continuing to pursue his college degree through online coursework.

The program featured remarks from YMCA leadership, Brockton Public Schools, one of AJ's former teachers, and a local student, highlighting the lasting impact of positive role models and community partnerships. AJ also reunited with former teachers and connected directly with young people and families during a school supply giveaway and community celebration.
