A Strong Start to the School Year with Old Colony YMCA

The start of a new school year can feel like a reset for the whole family.

After weeks of summer schedules, later nights and days that look a little different, suddenly the alarm clocks are back on and everyone is trying to get out the door on time. It can take a little while for families to settle into that new routine.

At Old Colony YMCA, we see that transition every year. We also know that getting back into the swing of things does not stop after the first day of school. Families need support throughout the year, especially when it comes to making busy schedules work.

For many parents and caregivers, before and after school care is an important part of that routine. Old Colony YMCA School Age programs provide children with a safe and welcoming place to spend time outside of the school day while giving families dependable care they can count on.

After school, children have time to connect with friends, get support with schoolwork and take part in activities before heading home for the evening. For parents, it means knowing their child has a place to go once the school day ends.

The Y also gives kids opportunities to stay active beyond the school day. From swim lessons to other youth programs and activities, children can try something new, build confidence and stay connected throughout the year. For families, having those familiar places and routines can make a difference.

The Y becomes part of the week, whether a child comes to us after school or the family visits together on the weekend. As another school year begins, Old Colony YMCA is proud to continue supporting children and families throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. We are also grateful to the community members, donors and friends who helped local children start the year prepared through our Back to School Campaign.

Thanks to their generosity, children and families served through Old Colony YMCA Family Services programs received backpacks and other school essentials as they prepared to return to the classroom. For families already facing difficult circumstances, having those items ready for the first day can take one more worry off their plate.

Back to school is about much more than the first day. It is about finding a routine that works and having support along the way. Old Colony YMCA is here for families as they settle into the school year and throughout every season that follows.
