Introducing the Sheehan-Cortelli Family Early Learning Center

As our community continues to grow, so does the need for spaces that support children, families, and members. We’re excited to share that this summer, the Plymouth YMCA will begin work on a major renovation that will transform our facility, expand our child care program and improve spaces throughout the building to better serve kids, families, and members for years to come.

This work is made possible through a combination of support, including a federal earmark through the Department of Housing and Urban Development, EEC stabilization funding, and a generous gift dedicated to expanding child care access.

The entire scope of the project includes:

  • Expanding our child care classroom spaces to dramatically increase capacity and serve 45 additional families
  • Creating a new KidZone with more room, enhanced play options, and the same convenient lobby access families are used to
  • Transforming our lobby into a more welcoming community gathering space
  • Adding 1,500 square feet of group exercise space to offer more of the classes and introduce new ones

We expect work to continue in phases throughout 2026 and 2027. While we do not have official dates and timelines for each piece of the project, there will be some temporary adjustments in the near future. Our goal is to keep services running smoothly while improvements are made.

Beginning in fall 2026, anticipated temporary adjustments may include:

  • New drop-off procedures and entrances for child care families during later phases of the project, though no immediate changes to entrances or parking are expected at this time
  • Toddler and preschool classrooms temporarily relocating to the current KidZone room
  • KidZone temporarily relocating to Studio C
  • Group exercise spaces, including spin classes, temporarily relocating within the building

We are happy to share that child care classrooms, KidZone, and group exercise classes are expected to continue operating as usual through the summer.

Please note that during construction, certain areas may be temporarily off-limits, routes through the building may change, or access to some programs or equipment could be limited at times. Rest assured, we will provide plenty of notice and clear instructions before any changes take place.

If you have any questions along the way, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at cwilson@oldcolonyymca.org

Information and timelines are subject to change as the project moves forward. Last revised: May 20, 2026

Thank you for being part of our Y. We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to sharing more soon!
