About PhotoVoice

The Massachusetts PhotoVoice Project (MPP) is a youth-led program that uses photography to explore and raise awareness about underage gambling and related issues in local communities. Young people take photos to tell real stories about what they see around them, learn about the root causes of these problems, and come up with ideas to help make a difference.

This project gives youth the tools and confidence to speak up, share their perspectives, and become leaders in creating positive change—especially in communities that face unfair challenges.

Who Supports This Work?

The project is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Office of Problem Gambling Services (OPGS). Since 2016, OPGS has led efforts to prevent and address problem gambling using a public health approach that values data, community voices, and cultural understanding.

MCOE PGP currently provides technical assistance to three prevention projects as well as statewide training to community prevention providers.
  • The Massachusetts Problem Gambling Treatment Technical Assistance Center (M-TAC) provides a range of services that build the capacity of outpatient treatment programs to address problem gambling and co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders, and to reduce health disparities in their communities. The Center offers training, technical assistance, consultation, and other technical support for problem gambling treatment services across the state. The Center is also managing the MA Problem Gambling Specialist (MA-PGS) certificate, the official problem gambling provider certificate in the state.
