Old Colony YMCA and the Brockton Gun Violence Prevention Coalition is one of 15 grantees throughout the Commonwealth funded by the MA Department of Public Health’s Gun Violence Prevention Program. The program is a focused on individual and community-level interventions for 17 to 24 year-olds who live in communities that are most affected by gun violence.

The program applies eight core principles centered on racial equity and trauma-informed care to guide grantees to provide comprehensive services to youth and to address the root causes of gun violence in their communities. Areas of focus include: workforce development, substance use, mentoring, racial equity, street outreach and mental health. The group believes that only a grassroots community response to the community issue of gun violence can truly bring about lasting change.

Through these efforts, the coalition has identified local key partners in implementing the prevention strategies of this project and seeks additional collaborators to increase overall impact.
