Behind the Y

Dear friends,

After nine years, I continue to be impressed by how the community comes together to support our mission through...spinning?

But that's exactly what happens every March when we hold our annual Spin-a-thon.

Hundreds of volunteers and staff, along with more than 800 spinners (including our virtual riders) gather at different locations across Southeastern Massachusetts with a common goal: Pedal for a Purpose.

What are they pedaling? Spin bikes of course! And what is their purpose? To support the mission of the YMCA, and in turn, their community. It's truly exciting to see an event pull together Y members, community members, local businesses and corporations, community groups, schools, and other nonprofit organizations - all for a common cause.

This will be my fourth year participating. I look forward to it every year now with a combination of caution and excitement. Those instructors really know how to make you sweat - but luckily they welcome riders of all ability!

The Spin-a-thon is our most heavily trafficked event of the year, and raises more than $250,000 that support our friends and neighbors in the community. Because of events like this, and spinners like you, we're able to ensure everyone has access to Y programs regardless of their ability to pay. The money we raise even supports critical services and programs like Livestrong® at the YMCAY-Ability, and Mentoring.

Helping us get a jump start on this year's fundraising are our Community Level sponsors, The New England Center for Nutrition Education, FIS, and HarborOne Bank - the latter of which we would like to welcome to the Stoughton community!

To those of you who have signed up to spin already, or if you are supporting a spinner:

Thank you. If you'd like to learn how to get involved or you want to reserve your bike today, you can sign up here.

Until next time,

Vinnie
