Community Reentry Center - Brockton and Quincy

In collaboration with the Department of Youth Services (DYS), the Old Colony YMCA operates two community re-entry centers, one in Brockton and one in Quincy.

Within these community re-entry centers, Community Advocates assist youth committed to the Department of Youth Services with a variety of activities designed to safely reintegrate the youths back into their community.  Youth report to each site daily and attend various groups such as anger management, substance abuse, life skills, vocational exploration, etc.  Youth also perform community service, participate in recreational activities and are drug screened.

Activities also occur outside each center and these include school visits, family meetings, job searches, recreation, and work visits.  Unique to this program is that state employed DYS staff (the funding agency) are located at each site, working alongside Old Colony YMCA staff .

The Old Colony Y continues to secure grants from the Commonwealth Corporation to assist DYS committed youth with employment.  This "Jobs For Youth" Program works with difficult clients teaching skills needed to secure and maintain employment.  Clients participate in workshops, mock interviews, listen to guest speakers, and then go into the community searching for employment with the assistance of program staff. 

During our most recent session of this program, almost all clients secured employment and many were able to remain employed.
