Youth Conference

Since 1990, Old Colony Y has proudly sponsored an annual Youth Conference for the purpose of bringing a diverse group of area youth together for a one-day forum to attend workshops, learn from each other, and discuss important issues.  Each year, more than 250 students from 28+ different schools and community organizations enjoy this "out of classroom" educational experience in which participating teens share their broad experiences with peers and discuss how they can make a difference with a positive impact on their future.

Old Colony YMCA
22nd Annual Youth Conference

For over twenty years, the Old Colony Y has sponsored an annual Youth Conference to expose area youth to a diverse population of peers in a forum that encourages discussions about important issues. This year's conference will be addressing issues ranging from racism and violence to substance abuse prevention and youth leadership. These topics are addressed in a workshop format by professionals that represent a wide range of community agencies. The events of the day also include a keynote speaker, a resource table fair, and cafeteria lunch.

Keynote Speaker:
Molly Sullivan Sliney
Two-Time Olympic Fencer

Two-time Olympic Fencer Molly Sullivan Sliney has spoken to thousands of students since coming back from the '92 Games in Barcelona, and her message has always been the same: Believe in yourself, set goals, and move towards those goals one step at a time, and your dreams can come true.

Molly delivers her message in a clear and interactive style, sharing her many experiences, from growing up suffering with the learning disability dyslexia, to fencing and traveling all over the globe. She encourages students to pursue their dreams through goal setting, hard work and motivation.
