Active Older Adults

At the Old Colony YMCA, older adults are one of our greatest resources!  We offer a comfortable place to stay active, take part in customized exercise programs to maintain their health, enjoy a sense of community, and strengthen social ties.

Our programs are designed to help adults strengthen their spirit, mind and body.   There are a variety of classes, trips, social activities, and special events available through our branches.

Contact your local branch for more information or view your branch's program brochure.

Here at our Middleboro Branch we offer:

Arthritis Foundation/YMCA Aquatic Program

Sanctioned by the Arthritis Foundation

The goal of this class is to increase range of motion, strengthen, and increase endurance/conditioning in participants through exercise.

Stretch Class

Stretch all of your muscle groups and learn o relax.  This program will focus on improving flexibility through proper stretching techniques.  Benefits include: low risk of injury, improved range of motion, and reduced lower back discomfort.

Senior Walking

Endorsed by the Council on Aging.  Held in the gym.

Osteoporosis Prevention

Designed to prevent or slow the development of osteoporosis.  Specifically tailored for older women, considering women's health concerns and physical limitations.  Includes exercise, education and group support.

Senior Strength and Fitness Training

Intimidated by all that equipment in the Fitness Center?  Fear no more!  Strength training is extremely important for seniors.  Along with making you stronger, it can increase your range of motion, increase bone density and help with rehabilitation after injury or illness.  Walk on the treadmills, ride the bikes, climb the stairs or row!

Fencing

Fencing is an exciting sport that combines physical and mental strategies with dynamic skills.  Learning to fence encourages self control and knowledge in the art of defense.  The sport develops endurance, reaction, confidence, coordination and intelligence.

Don't miss these!
