David Jon Louison Center

Founded in 1982, the David Jon Louison Center merged with the Old Colony Y and was chartered as a new YMCA branch in July 2006.  The Center is housed in three adjoining residences in Brockton  and receives referrals from throughout the state.  With 54 available beds, the Center is capable of concurrently housing up to 16 families experiencing homelessness, offering temporary shelter as well as educational opportunities designed to foster personal, social, and economic growth.

Family Life Center

The Family Life Center was created in August 2003 in response to the need for intensive wrap-around services and affordable, safe housing for families.  Located a short distance from the YMCA's Central and Youth facilities, the Family Life Center offers six two-bedroom and seven three-bedroom fully furnished units, with additional common space.    A vast array of on-site services and programming are provided, helping families to reach self-sufficiency - one step at a time - in a safe, supportive environment.

Services Families Receive

Self-sufficiency plans (Treatment plans) are developed for each family, including career/educational needs, social service needs, vocational needs and housing needs by the Center's Casework Coordinator.  Services include: family advocacy/case management, assistance with accessing child care, individual and family therapy/clinical services, career counseling, job search and placement, domestic violence education and intervention, GED and educational services, family support and mentoring services, life and pro-social skill building and recreational opportunities.  Additionally staff focus on the children at the center through Case Management providing life and pro-social skill-building groups, tutoring and homework help, recreational activities and youth and asset building activities. All activities are geared toward ending a family's homelessness by addressing barriers and ultimate placement in decent, affordable housing.

Becoming part of the Y culture

Families served receive free memberships to our YMCA Association and programs and services include the following:

• Family Memberships to the Y (includes fitness and fitness classes, youth programming, swimming lessons, recreational swimming, karate lessons, youth sports leagues, etc)
• Assistance with accessing Child Care (more than 40 sites across Southeastern Massachusetts)
• Summer Camperships (to any of four YMCA summer camps)
• Mental Health Services through our licensed Mental Health Clinic (individual and family therapy)
• Big Sister Big Brother Mentoring Services
• Special Events and Activities
